Everyone in the country is still trying to make sense of the horrific tragedy that occurred on Friday in Newton, CT. Words can't express how sad I am for all the families who lost their loved ones, many of which were children. In one of the most touching performances I've ever seen, the Voice opened tonight with a tribute to the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary. It will leave you in tears.
As many of our parents and friends who are teachers can probably attest to, kids can surprise us everyday with what they say and do. This morning I heard two heartwarming stories of kids doing just that. With all the negative stories on the news, its refreshing to see good things from good people, especially when none of them are even old enough to drive.
In California, a 9-year-old named Caine Monry created a cardboard arcade at his father's garage. As luck would have it, a patron walked in to the store to get a door handle and walked out inspired by this young kid. He decided to put together a flash mob of people for a day of fun at Caine's Arcade, and documented the story. Check out the video below for a mid-week feel good.
Just north of where little Caine was hiding behind a box and spitting out arcade tickets, two teenagers in Washington had obviously been brushing up on their Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock films, because it was a scene from Speed on Monday when their bus driver had a heart attack, and they saved a bus of fellow classmates. One took over driving, and the other performed CPR. Unfortunately, Alan Ruck was not on the bus with them to offer some comic relief. Check out their interview on The Today Show this morning:

Lets just say, if the youth of America is shaping up to be like any one of these three local heroes, I'd say we are on the right path.
